Jock Safari Lodge & Spa
Kruger National Park, South Africa

The Main Jock Safari Lodge and Fitzpatricks Lodge at Jock are Concession Lodges, situated in the south western corner of the world renowned Kruger National Park, an area which is recognized for both its diversity in wildlife but also its Big Five Game viewing. The lodges offer 6000 hectares of exclusive traversing rights in a game rich area, nestled between the confluence of the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers. The lodges are located in a low risk malaria area.

Situated about 60 minutes from the Malelane Gate, guests should be aware that they need to be at their destination by the time the gates of the Kruger National Park close as no driving is permitted on any Kruger National Park roads after gate closing. Scheduled flights can be booked into Kruger Mpumalanga Airport in Nelspruit. Alternatively charter flights can be arranged from Johannesburg at an additional cost. Road transfers from Nelspruit and other destinations are easily arranged.

Jock of the Bushveld, the Legend was the inspiration for the building of these two lodges which are aptly named. Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, an early pioneer in the area penned his tales in a book – ‘Jock of the Bushveld’ which first appeared in 1907 and in which he shares stories of the African bushveld and in particular the devotion of his dog Jock. The story has become a South African classic.

Before the turn of the century, gold diggers and fortune seekers from all corners of the world passed through this area – some of the most scenic and untamed wilderness in Africa and it is in this area that the two lodges are based. The area is well conserved and there is little to no alien vegetation in the rivers, which flow only if there is enough rainfall.

Guests can enjoy guided game drives, in open 4x4 landrovers which are conducted twice daily with experienced and knowledgeable rangers and last up to 3 hours each (visitors with children younger than 6 years old can enjoy game drives in closed vehicles – for safety reasons). Guided walks allow visitors  the opportunity of getting up close and personal with nature and learning about some of the sights and sounds of the African bush with the option of visiting some of the oldest Bushmen Rock Art in Africa, dating back approximately 3000 years. With an estimated 34 different species of Amphibians in Kruger, the area ranks as one of the best places for frogging safaris. The rainy months between November and March are the best time of year for frogging. Headlights, nets and gumboots are all provided and the frogs are released back into their habitat after identification.

The Jock of the Bushveld concession was the first private concession - set within the 2 million hectares that is the Kruger National Park and as such offers a romantic travel back in time to a bygone era.
