Positioned on the banks of the Sabie River, Tinga Lodge comprises nine luxury suites, sleeping up to 18 guests - making any stay a personal experience. There are two large family suites which are perfect for families with up to two children. Each suite has twin beds and a comfortable sleeper couch as well as their own plunge pool which helps to keep children entertained in the afternoons when there generally aren’t activities arranged.

The Tinga Lodge has been designed to be grand and spacious with a feeling of historical opulence. The main areas are double volume and open out onto wooden viewing decks with breath-taking views that end only a short distance from the Sabie River.

The restaurant chefs are experienced in catering for families and children and will accommodate any requirements or special requests as best they can – providing healthy yet tasty food and snacks.
Tinga offers visitors an all-year-round safari destination. Not having any significant migratory species, the variation in guest experiences is temperature-related rather than safari related. The best bird-watching period, though is usually between October and April.

Kruger Park was first proclaimed in 1898 and therefore holds a large amount of history – much of which can be read in the accounts of the first warden Major James Stevenson-Hamilton whose early days are collected and recalled in the Stevenson-Hamilton Memorial Library at Skukuza Restcamp. There are also a large number of significant cultural and archaeological sites within the reserve, which can be visited from Tinga Lodge.

The Tinga concession comprises 5000 hectares of exclusive use land in one of the most abundant game viewing areas of the Kruger National Park. Boasting approximately 30km of river frontage on the Sabie River and about 14km on the Sand River - the area is home to a large population of black rhino and leopard as well as the nesting site of the rare southern ground hornbill and saddle billed stork and a large variety of other plant and animal life. The lodge benefits from a private concession while still retaining access to the greater Kruger National Park, for guests who wish to extend their safari experience beyond the concession territory.

Morning and evening game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles by expertly trained and experienced rangers. Bush walks, astronomy, bush breakfasts and dinners, safari lunches, boma dinners, bird watching, visits to historically significant sites, local village experiences and wellness treatments as well as golf, hot air ballooning, helicopter flights, elephant interaction experiences or private safaris are all additional activities which are available should guests wish to experience them.

There are few experiences that can beat the genuine interest and excitement of a child when going on safari to search for their favourite African animal or ‘Lion King’ character and Tinga have a whole array of activities young guests can choose from: Spoor Identification using basic techniques, Tracking spoor such as baboon, giraffe or zebra, Making Spoor Moulds of any interesting spoor seen, Orientation skills – compass, map and natural direction indicators, Basic Bush Survival skills, Medicinal Value of some plants, Crafty Arts and Crafts, Astronomy and Navigation, Treasure Hunts, Bug Hunting, Delicious Cookie Baking and Cupcake Decorating, Make your Own Pizzas, Perfect Painting and Nature Gifts, Beading, Board Games and/or Movies

If you want to get closer to the African wilderness in an environment that caters for children – Lion Sands Tinga Lodge will provide you and your family with an unforgettable safari experience.
