The Outpost Lodge is located in a very remote, northern part of the Kruger National Park, in a wilderness area, previously inaccessible to visitors. Situated within the Makuleke Contractual Park, the lodge offers visitors Big 5 Game Viewing opportunities in one of the most diverse and scenically attractive areas of the Kruger National Park.

The Outpost can be reached by road and is approximately a 6 hour drive from Johannesburg. Guests should enter the Kruger National Park through Punda Maria Gate. Charter flights can also be arranged and would land at Pafuri airstrip.

Resting high on a hill overlooking the Luvuvhu River Valley, the Outpost Lodge comprises 12 Luxury, Stand Alone en-suite Rooms. Designed using simple, clean lines the rooms combine elements of steel, concrete and open space, emphasising the lodges’ beautiful surroundings while still blending into and preserving the feel of the wilderness. The rooms have state of the art remote controlled weather screens. The Luxury Suites offer spectacular 180 degree views of the river, valley and bush below and are connected to each other and the central Lodge by a Zimbabwean Teak walkway. The lodge also boasts a magnificent Honeymoon Suite located high above the camp offering 270 degree panoramic views.

Overnight rates at The Outpost include accommodation, three meals a day, all beverages (excluding premium wines from the cellar), two game drives per day with refreshments, optional walking safaris and road transfers from the Pafuri Airstrip to the Lodge for fly-in guests. The rates exclude Cellar wines, Premium brand spirits, champagne, cognacs, cigars and cigarettes, Telephone calls, Curio shop purchases, Lodge Transfers, Laundry services, Gratuities, Massage Therapies, Additional Activities and Park Entrance Fees

The Makuleke Contractual Park (formerly known as The Pafuri) is a vast and remote wilderness area bordered to the north by the Limpopo River and Zimbabwe and to the east by Crooks Corner and Mozambique. It is a Big 5 Reserve measuring 26 500 hectares and is known for its abundance of wildlife, including some of the less common species not always seen in the southern and central regions of the Kruger Park. There are over 350 recorded bird species and the diverse terrain includes Savannah Grassland, Mopane Woodlands, Fever Tree Forests, Acacia Thickets and some of the largest and oldest Baobab trees. In addition to this traces of early humankind have been found in the area, it is a listed Ramsar Site (Wetland of international importance), Rocks in Lanner Gorge have been dated back some 250 million years and stone ruins of a royal citadel have been found at Thulamela, dating back to between the 15th and 17th centuries.

Guests can enjoy twice daily, 4x4 open vehicle game drives and also walking safaris – both are conducted with experienced and qualified rangers who will share an unbelievable wealth of knowledge about the history of the area and the Makuleke people, as well as the animals, birds and plants. There is a large population of buffalo, hippos and crocodiles and the area is a favourite winter grazing ground for elephant, while leopard also enjoy the thick bush environment. The region has resident prides of lion and rhino were recently reintroduced. Birding in the whole area is exceptional. Private Safaris can also be booked allowing guests to plan their own day and pace with a private safari vehicle and guide.

The Outpost Lodge offers guests a chance to experience real luxury in one of the wildest and most remote parts of the Kruger National Park and is well worth a visit.
