Nambiti Private Game Reserve
Luxury South African Safari Lodges, KwaZulu-Natal

Located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, about a four hour drive from Johannesburg and a three hour drive from Durban – Nambiti Private Game Reserve offers visitors a true wildlife experience, in a completely malaria free area which is home to an abundance of wildlife including Africa’s ‘Big Five’.

History of the area
The area around Nambiti Private Game Reserve is rich in South African history. Several Battles of the Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu wars took place on the land surrounding Nambiti, including world renowned battles such as those at Isandlwana, Rorkes Drift, Ladysmith and Elandslaagte, which are in the reserve’s immediate vicinity. Many of these battlefields have been preserved as reminders of the areas rich history and Nambiti Game Reserve rests within this land.

History of Nambiti Game Reserve
While out trout fishing one day, Rob le Sueur shared his dream of establishing a Big Five game reserve, with his friend Gordon Howard, although he had not yet come across a suitable property close enough to Durban. When a number of cattle farms became available for sale east of Ladysmith – the two friends met for a horseback tour of the properties and amazed by the natural beauty of the area, they set about acquiring the land. Nambiti Game Reserve was born in 2000.
The reserve is 22 000 acres in size and boasts incredible biodiversity, including savannah, riverine bush, thornveld, acacia trees and extensive grasslands.

History of the Wildlife
Having originally been cattle and maize farming areas – the task of removing internal fencing, old buildings and unwanted manmade structures, as well as clearing alien vegetation was a huge project. The land was then fenced with game fencing before the delicate task of re-introducing wildlife could begin. The introduction of naturally occurring wildlife and later endemic species, driven out by farming practices was done working closely with conservationists and wildlife experts. Nambiti is now home to Africa’s ‘Big 5’ as well as many other types of game, prolific bird life and indigenous plants. The reserve currently boasts over 40 different species of game including, amongst others - cheetah, hippo, hyena, impala, eland and zebra and is a bird watchers paradise.

Nambiti Conservation
Situated in beautiful and diverse landscape – Nambiti Game Reserve is one of Africa’s most exciting conservation initiatives. The reserve is dedicated to the preservation and regeneration of the areas wildlife and ecosystems through partnerships with neighbouring communities and conservationists. The reserves vegetation is some of the most nutritious in the country and is thus ideal for breeding and relocation programmes.
