Each of the eight luxury suites at Exeter River Lodge offers a private verandah with padded loungers providing cool areas for afternoon relaxation surrounded by greenery, shade and extraordinary, close up views of the river. Visitors can admire the wildlife and occasional herd of elephant as they come to drink and take their daily bath, while private plunge pools offer the opportunity for a refreshing dip. Each air conditioned suite features generous space, en-suite bathrooms with twin hand basins, separate w.c, bath, indoor and outdoor showers.
The main lodge has an open air dining deck and a shared lounge area with plush sofas offering a peaceful escape where guests can enjoy quiet solitude, overlooking the Sand River. In the evenings enjoy a roaring fire in the boma or arrange for a romantic candlelit bush dinner.

Game Viewing at Exeter River Lodge is exceptional – with sightings of Africa’s ‘Big 5’ – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and even leopard being common. The Sabi Sand Reserve shares unfenced borders with the world renowned Kruger National Park allowing the wildlife unhindered access between the reserves. The Reserve benefits from a remarkable diversity of wildlife, in one of the richest wilderness areas in Africa, while at the same time allowing guests to enjoy the added and exclusive benefits experienced on a private game reserve. The lodge boasts a traversing area of 10 000 hectares - the number of vehicles permitted at a sighting is strictly adhered to, ensuring exclusivity during the game viewing experience. Off-road driving is permitted and ensures that the best possible views at a sighting are experienced. Game viewing continues all day, whether on a morning or afternoon game drive or from the comfort of the lodge’s shady viewing deck. Night drives offer exciting and different nocturnal game viewing opportunities. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 safari vehicles with expert guides and Shangaan trackers. Interpretive guided bush walks with excellent bird watching opportunities can also be undertaken.

The vegetation at Sabi ranges from riverine forest and scatters of dense thickets to bush savanna, consisting mainly of small trees and shrubs. This type of vegetation is interspersed with patches of taller, more widely spaced trees as well as open areas dominated by grasses. The variety of trees and grasses provide perfect grazing for impala, kudu, giraffe, warthog, zebra and wildebeest. The marula tree is a favourite with the elephants and baboons, while the termite mounds form a fascinating and distinctive feature of the Sabi Sand landscape. The mounds are created and inhabited by termites, but when a colony is abandoned the mound could be taken over by a variety of creatures including mongoose, rock monitor, porcupine or even warthog or hyena. The area is particularly well known for its leopard sightings – normally the most solitary of the African cats, it is often viewed both in daylight hours and during game drives.

Set on the banks of the Sand River, within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve - Exeter River Lodge is warm and welcoming, offering visitors intimate ‘Big Five’ sightings and dramatic riverside views from each of the suites.
