Londolozi Game Reserve
Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa

Londolozi Game Reserve is ideally positioned on the Sand River, in the very heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which in turn forms part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park – a growing conservation area which currently covers over 6 million acres including the world renowned Kruger National Park.

The area offers a true wilderness experience with exceptional game drives. Londolozi is a ‘Big Five’ reserving – offering visitors the opportunity of seeing, amongst others – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and rhino - in their natural habitat. The white rhino and lion concentrations in the Londolozi area are amongst the highest recorded on the African continent and there is no denying that viewing the leopards at Londolozi will be one of any guests truly treasured experiences.

The history of Londolozi was shaped over 80 years ago, by two friends of the Varty and Taylor families who dedicated their lives to saving a small part of Africa’s Eden. The vision and potential that these two men saw when they looked out across the mighty Sand River laid the foundations of the Londolozi dream and the creation of one of the most sought after ecotourism destinations in the world.

The tradition of hosting royal families and conducting hunting excursions into the wilderness came to an end when John, Dave and Shan Varty shared their dream to build a world class destination - creating the blueprint for modern day conservation in Southern Africa. In the 70’s and 80’s the aim was to demonstrate the economic viability of preserving wildlife. By the 90’s there was new hope and belief in unity, trust and harmony. It was by this time that Londolozi was able to send her message of partnership between wildlife and people across the African continent and expand the dream of wildlife paying for conservation.

Londolozi – derived from the Zulu word ‘To Protect’ symbolises the family’s aim to provide a sanctuary for all living things. The intention is to be of service and to create a place and space quite unique in the world - so that visitors, guests and friends will leave Londolozi, not only having engaged all of their senses, feeling charged and enlightened but also profoundly moved by their experiences and encouraged to become the best versions of themselves.

Londolozi has been a member of the Relais & Châteaux hotel family since the early 1990’s – a group of hotels and lodges united by the same spirit and philosophy of constantly striving to improve and in so doing offer guests an enchanting interlude. Relais & Châteaux was established in France more than 50 years ago and has become a renowned reference of excellence in the hotel and restaurant world.

From the time guests arrive at Londolozi – the Varty family values will be in evidence and noticeable in the welcome on arrival, the personalized service, commitment to conservation and in the ambience of simplicity and elegance.

Londolozi is a privately owned game reserve built on solid foundations and almost a hundred years of family history. Socially, economically and environmentally responsible, the reserve strives to explore new frontiers, exceed expectations and enkindle aspirations for a better future for all – wild animals and people.
